Becharaji Bahuchara Mata Temple Timings, History, How to Reach

Becharaji or Bahucharaji is a temple town and taluka capital in the Mehsana district of Gujarat state, India. The town is associated with the Hindu goddess Bahuchara Mata worshipped as Bala.

About the Bahuchara Mata Temple:-

Shri Bahuchara Mata temple in Becharaji is the destination of millions of devotees. It is a Shakti Peeth Mandir. Bahuchara Mata is much revered by women who want peace and prosperity in domestic life. Bahuchara Mata is also the Patron Mother of the transvestite and eunuch community. This temple is an ancient pilgrimage with many stories connected to it. The temple as seen today was built by Manaji Gaekwad of Baroda after he was cured of an illness in 1783. The temple stands in a courtyard protected by four gates. Besides the main temple, there are two other temples dedicated to Bahuchara Mata here. The first is Adhyasthan (original), near the Varakhadi tree where Mataji first appeared. The second is Madhyasthan (middle). Within the complex, there are smaller shrines dedicated to Neelkanth Mahadev, Shri Ganesh, Shri Hanuman, and more. 

Among the main attractions here are the Varakhadi Tree where Mataji first appeared and the Jharokha-styled gates. The main festivals celebrated here are – Purnima (Full Moon Day), Chaitra and Ashwin Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali.

Becharaji Bahuchara Mata Temple History

As per the legend, demon Dandasur was stayed around this Bahucharaji and won all three Lokas namely Mrutyulok, Patallok, and Devloka. Then all devas went to Goddess Parambaa to save them from the devil Dandasur, thus the goddess takes the form of a small girl because the devil had a boon from Lord Shiva that goddess appeared against him in form of a small girl. It is believed that at the Varakhadi tree, Goddess first appears in form of a small girl, thus Ma known as Bala Bahuchara. Bahucharma killed demon king Dandasur with Trishul and brought peace for Gods and people on earth. It is also believed that the Bahu – the hand of Ma Devi Sati was fallen here at Bahucharaji Temple thus it is also popular Shakti Peetha.

Cock is the main vehicle of goddess Bahuchara. Bala Yantra made of crystal and encased in gold is worshipped here at the temple. Bahuchara Mata carries a sword on her top right, a text of scriptures on her top left, the Abhay Hasta mudra on her bottom right, and a trident on her bottom left. Bahucharmata as the Goddess of Fertility, pilgrims are taken to this site for vows fulfilled and boons granted. It is also believed that if any new child who is not speaking fluently is brought here and on his behalf a Cock is donated to Mata (Goddess), in a few days he starts speaking fluently.
