About Khatu Shyamji Temple
The history of Khatu Shyamji temple originates from the period of the ‘Mahabharata,’ which took place approximately 5500 years ago. It is focused on the great Barberic, the grandson of Bheema and the son of Ghatothkach. Barberic studied the Vedas and meditated in order to achieve wisdom and power. He worshiped the “Nine Durgas” secretly in Mahisagar Sangam. His devotion and austerity earned him numerous mystical bents as well as magical bows and arrows.
Khatu Shyamji Temple History
Khatu Shyam Baba takes the form of “Barbarik” during the Mahabharata, the grandson of Maharaj Bhima and Ghatovacchak. Barbarik had always been a fearless and powerful warrior. Observing Barbarik’s force skill, Agni Dev gifted a special bow to him, and Lord Shiva gave him three arrows as a blessing. Barbarians became known as “three arrows” due to this boon. Barbaric revealed his intention to become a war witness after witnessing the brutal battle of the Mahabharata. He let his mother go to war and used all three arrows to fight in the war.
When the barbarians were about to go to war, Lord Shri Krishna ordered them to study since no one could win the battle with only three arrows. Barberik explained the meaning of the three arrows, saying that his first arrow would mark the established places, while the second and third arrows could safely secure and destroy those areas.
Due to Barbarik’s blessing, the Kauravas and the Pandavas wanted to keep them in their favor. Then, in the form of a Brahmin, Lord Krishna demanded his head and gave it to Barbarik. Barbaric requested that they come to him in their true form due to this strange request. Then Shri Krishna arrived and told Barbarik, the most heroic Kshatriya fighter in the war, that the sacrifice of the most heroic Kshatriya warrior in the battle is very essential. As a result, upon hearing his promise, Barbriak severed his head and presented it to Shri Krishna as a gift. Then Lord Shri Krishna observed his amazing gift and granted upon him the boon that he shall be known throughout the world as “Shyam” in Shri Krishna’s name.
